Task 6 –
Review/Evaluation
Having
just finished my project, I believe what I have done is overall mediocre. While
tasks 1 to 3 have been done to a good standard, I believe tasks 4 and 5 have
been done to a poor standard, especially 4. I have done everything I have
intended to do from the start, but not to a standard I would have liked. I feel
this is due to time constraints and a lack of effectiveness when using the Illustrator and Photoshop tools offered
to me, preventing me from achieving as higher quality within task 4.
First
of all, I believe Task 1 was done very well, but only due to its simple nature
of being a simple timetable. I have adhered to it quite well and it has kept my
project scheduled rather successfully. I have manged what time I had relatively
successfully.
Task
2 I believe was done well, and I have generated a wide variety of ideas which I
then refined into my final project. I believe I have researched locations successfully
and shown clearly the websites in which I found the images. I came to a conclusion
rather quickly on my location, plot etc., resulting in such little research. In
future projects, I must provide more research to give the examiners a greater
idea and a better insight in to my thought process towards a task.
Task
3, I believe is my best work within this project. While it may not be the most
original idea, it is certainly not the most used. I believe I wrote my character
profile well and in enough detail to interest anyone who reads it, without
getting bored by the end of it. It was relatively short, but had enough detail
in to set the scene and explain my character’s personality and situation without
being an exposition dump. More imagination could have gone into my character
and his back story, but it wasn’t necessarily a scenario used all the time
within the industry.
Task
4, I believe is my worst task in this project. I started off quite well,
utilizing the templates given and my Photoshop skills being enough to convincingly
put my picture into a background without it looking too obvious. However, when
I put the photo shopped image into Illustrator, the quality of my work reduced
drastically. I used the pencil tool to put outlines around everything I wanted
within the picture, but instead of using them, used the blob brush tool to put
in the colour, due to lack of time. This resulted in a thoroughly unrefined and
messy look to my work. This severely impacted the possibility of a professional
standard to my project. However, I posted my progress regularly in blogger, giving anyone who see's it a insight into how my work developed. This was arguably the only positive to my work in Task 4.
Task
5 was only a slight improvement. I utilized a text tool to put text in a
certain part of my template, albeit after given the advice from my teacher. I
was able to put my image into front of my template finishing it off. I included my Company Type Logo and added it to the front of the game cover. Finally, I put the title of my game on the spine of the front cover. I did this by typing the name down, used transform to flip the text by 90 degrees, and moved the text over to the spine itself.
Overall,
my work within this project left much to be desired. While Tasks 1 to 3 were
far better than Task 4 and 5, they had various problems, and Tasks 4 and 5 were
done to a low standard especially 4. In future projects, I must seriously improve the standard of my work to get anywhere near a professional level of quality. I
must be prepared to do my work to a good standard even with a short amount of
time to do so.
