HA1 Task 1 - Technical Glossary

Vector Images -
A Vector Image is an image that is made up of paths which consist of multiple curves and angles. These can be used for either complex or simple diagrams or drawings.
Raster Images -
Raster Images are images that are composed via different grids utilizing a Y and X axis. These are generally larger files than vector and are harder to modify without losing data in the process.
The Pixel -
A pixel is a point within a graphic picture or image. Pixels are tightly packed together, giving them a look of being attached. Resolution depends on the amount of pixels on screen.
Colour Depth -
Colour Depth is a representation of all the colours a piece of software or hardware has. It is sometimes called Bit Depth due to its relevance in how many bits are used per pixel.
Colour Models  -
A colour model is an abstract model based on mathematical processing which describes the way colours can be represented in Tuples of numerical data.
Resolution -
Resolution is the number pixels within a TV screen or computer monitor. The larger the resolution, the sharper the image, which also depends on the screen size with a smaller screen, usually having a sharper image.
Anti-Aliasing -
Anti-Aliasing is when ‘Jaggies’ in computer graphics are smoothed out to the best of the system’s ability. In order to remove the ‘Jaggies’, the computer surrounds them with either colour or grey patches in order to smooth them.
File Formats -
Bmp. – Bmp is a well-used Raster format for saving graphical images.
Png – Png is a file format which utilizes raster in order to prevent Loss-less data compression.
Gif – Gif is a raster file format where animated Raster images are stored.
Tiff – A Tiff file format used for exchanging raster images.
JPEG – A JPEG is a technique which specializes in Lossy Compression. This keeps files intact. It is mainly used with colour images.
Psd - Psd is the method Photoshop uses to save its data. By utilizing Psd, users can alter their works layers after saving it.
PDF - A PDF file is a file format utilized to open outside of an application no matter the content.
Eps – Eps is a file extension used by Adobe illustrator to store and save its data.
Ai – Ai is a file extension used to save vector artwork in illustrator.

Compression -
Compression is when data within a file is reduced to allow for less memory used, which compresses the file.
Image Capture devices -
Image capture devices are devices used to capture images. Upon capture, the images can then be accessed at any time.
Optimizing -
Optimizing is when the computer rewrites a file or program in order to increase that file or programs efficiency in their respective tasks.
Storage and Asset Management -
Storage and Asset management is a method in which digital programs are used to keep data and applications safe and organised so the user can access them with ease.
