HA2 Task 10 - Review

HA2 Mekka Hornet Rebuild Review/Evaluation

Overall, I consider my work in this assignment mediocre overall. My written work I believe was done to an acceptable standard, but my practical work is only a small improvement over my practical work in the mock, which was of a poor quality.

For Task 1, I believe I did well, but only due to the tasks simple nature. I put on the original schedule, but I also put on my own modified schedule. I put down 2 schedules. The first one was my schedule at the start of the unit, and the second was my schedule on my third week of the Unit.

For Task 2, I believe I did well. I added all the detail I felt I could and I analysed the different parts of the game in great detail, especially the construction and content , and I believe I successfully deduced the inspiration for Mekka Hornet. Rather than do Task 2 on word, I put it straight onto the Blog to save time. I believe this bought me time to focus on the practical aspects of this Unit.

I believe Task 3 was done well overall, but I needed to put more detail into it. I showed 2 films and 1 game as my influences. In this case, due to the underwater nature of my film, I chose Thunderball and The Spy Who Loved Me as my films and Just Cause 2 as my game. I used photos to show the Vehicles and weaponry my art assets will be based off and inspired by.

Task 4, I believe is a slight improvement on Task 3. While Task 4 was not as detailed as it could of been, it still had enough ideas to work with, and make a varied and detailed game. I gave multiple ideas per heading, giving me enough choice to make a variety of different Sprites in my game. Next time I do an ideas generation, I will make sure I have even more detail and a wider variety of ideas.

Task 5 I think was done well. I believe I did a blurb, that was around the right size for a blurb. It set the scene for the game without giving too much away and it didn't go on for too long, which would bore the player. I believe I gave the right amount of detail about the plot in Task 5 which would keep a potential buyer if the blurb was on the back of a actual retail game, hooked and eager to play the game, without spoiling it.

Task 6 is where I believe things went downhill. While I took a consistent amount of screenshots fully detailing my production process of my vector artwork, and putting captions on my photos explaining  my thought process during making my work , I believe the actual quality of my vector artwork was poor. This is due to a lack of knowledge of how to use the software. Before I do the other units, I should learn how to use the software properly, in order to do my practical work to an acceptable standard.

In Task 7, I put my Vector artwork onto t-shirts. I did this by opening up the images of the artwork into Photoshop and moving the directly onto the t-shirts. I altered the colors of the collars and the main part of the t-shirt. I kept the color of the t-shirts throughout. Due to time constraints, I was unable to remove the white background of the photos. If I had more time, I would of removed the white background on the T-shirts which would improve the T-shirts presentation.

For Task 8, I took photos of the sprites I will use in my full game. I posted all the pictures of the sprites I made, before I put them onto the template for Task 9. I put sub headings over the photos to identify each sprite. If the sprite was animated, I put all the individual images of the animations under one subheading and explained how I animated them. Next time, I would post pictures of the sprites during different stages of their construction to give an idea of my thought process while making them.

With Task 9, I believe was relatively straight forward. I converted the sprites to a Png on Piskel than placed them onto the template, in the places shown on the Mekka Hornet side of the template. I manged to finish and place all sprites on the template though the sprites weren't done to the standard I would have liked.

Overall, I believe my work on this task was mediocre, and only a slight improvement from the mock assignment. I believe I have reached the aim of the project which is to create all my Piskel assets but I believe the overall quality of my assets leave much to be desired. Next time, I will try to refine my practical work, and make sure it is done to a better quality. I should spend more time on my artwork than my written work, in order to achieve higher quality in future units.
